Cloud Backup Setup

What’s included

• Set up one supported cloud backup service on one Windows PC
• Configure the backup using your own account
• Review which files and connected drives should be protected
• Configure sensible backup and retention settings
• Enable account security features such as multi-factor authentication where available
• Start the initial backup
• Check that the backup service is running correctly
• Perform a basic test restore where sufficient backup data is available
• Show you how to check the status of your backups
• Show you how to restore a file if you need one later

The initial backup may continue running after the setup visit has finished, particularly if you have a large amount of data or a slower internet connection.

Suitable for

This service is ideal if you have important documents, photographs or other files stored on your computer and want them backed up automatically to the cloud.

A service such as Backblaze is particularly useful if you want a straightforward backup that runs quietly in the background without having to manage it yourself.

What you’ll need

Please have the following available where applicable:

• Your Windows PC
• A working internet connection
• Access to your chosen cloud backup account
• A valid subscription or payment method if a new subscription is required
• Your phone or other authentication device if multi-factor authentication is enabled
• Any external drives you want included in the backup connected and available during setup

The backup account and subscription remain in your name, so you retain control of your account and data.

If you don’t already have a suitable backup service, I can help you choose and set one up.

Customer availability

For security and authentication, you may need to be available during the work to enter passwords, approve sign-in requests or complete multi-factor authentication when required.

For your security, I won’t normally ask you to give me your passwords. Where login details are needed, you’ll enter them yourself.

Not included

This package does not include:

• The cost of your cloud backup subscription
• Recovering files that were lost before the backup was configured
• Data recovery from damaged or failing drives
• Repairing unrelated computer problems
• Server, NAS or business network backup systems
• Large-scale data migration
• Waiting onsite for a large initial backup to fully complete
• Managing or monitoring your backup account on an ongoing basis

If additional work is required, I’ll explain what’s involved and agree any additional cost with you before continuing.
