Privacy & cookies
This page explains what information I collect, why I collect it, and how cookies are used on this website. It’s written in plain English on purpose.
Who I am
Ards Tech Fix is a small software support business run by John Taylor in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), John Taylor trading as Ards Tech Fix is the controller of the personal information described on this page.
What I collect
- Details you give me when you get in touch — for example your email address, phone number and what you need help with
- Correspondence between us by email, phone or text while I’m helping you
- Your cookie choices on this website
- If you allow analytics cookies, measurement information from Google Analytics about how this website is used — for example which pages are visited
- If you allow marketing cookies, measurement information from Google Ads about whether our adverts lead to enquiries
I don’t buy information about you from anyone else, and this website doesn’t run advertising trackers of its own.
How I use it
I only use your information to respond to your enquiry, carry out any work you’ve asked for, and keep records of that work. I’ll never sell your information or use it for marketing without asking you first.
When you use the contact form, you’re asked to tick a box to say you’re happy for your details to be stored so your enquiry can be answered. That’s your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time — just ask and I’ll delete your details.
Who sees your information
Your information stays with me. Enquiries sent through this website are passed to a form-processing service under my control, purely so the message reaches me — it isn’t used for anything else.
I won’t share your information with anyone else unless it’s needed to provide the service you’ve asked for (for example, contacting a supplier on your behalf) or the law requires it.
If you allow analytics or marketing cookies, Google also sets cookies on this website — Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and Google Ads to measure how my adverts perform. Google may process that information outside the UK — see Google’s privacy policy for details of how Google handles your information.
How long I keep it
Only as long as necessary. Enquiry details are kept while we’re in conversation and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you get back in touch, then deleted. Information relating to paid work is kept for as long as needed for tax and accounting purposes.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. This website only uses the cookies described below, and non-essential cookies are never set unless you allow them.
- atf-consent — strictly necessary. Remembers your cookie choices so you aren’t asked on every visit. Kept for 6 months.
- Analytics (Google Analytics) — optional. Only set with your permission, to understand how the site is used so it can be improved. You can opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Marketing (Google Ads) — optional. Only set with your permission, to measure whether adverts lead to enquiries and to make the adverts you see more relevant. You can also opt out of personalised Google advertising at adssettings.google.com.
You can accept, reject or change your cookie choices at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it’s used, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected] and I’ll sort it out.
If you’re not happy with how I’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
